Transparent costs, fair value
Some providers hide fees or make it hard to understand what you’ll actually pay. At Willzee, we believe in transparent pricing, no surprises, and lifetime value.
Willzee:
The other ways:
Simple and fast
Your Foundation Will can be completed in as little as 2 minutes, giving immediate peace of mind. Optional Schedules can be added anytime as your life evolves.
Slow and complex
Traditional Will creation often requires multiple appointments and long questionnaires before you even sign.
Free for life
There’s no upfront cost, subscription, or charge for updates. You’re encouraged to keep your Will current as your circumstances change.
Pay each time
Most lawyers charge $400–$600 per hour, often totalling thousands for each revision. Over a lifetime, this quickly adds up.
Digitally built for NZ law
Traditional ways, stuck in the past
Most DIY kits and basic online Wills are rigid and outdated. They often cost $150+ upfront, add annual fees, or push charity tie-ins. There’s no flexibility and everything still relies fully on manual printing, signing, and storage.
Family transparency
You can share your Will for digital acknowledgment with executors and beneficiaries, reducing conflict later.
Kept private until too late
Beneficiaries often learn about their inheritance only after death, which can lead to disputes.
Support when needed
Self-help guides and quick responses are free. When specialist legal work is required, accredited estate lawyers assist at a fixed rate of $350 per hour.
High hourly rates
Legal fees of $400–$600 per hour are common, and outdated templates mean longer drafting and higher costs.
Fair estate fees
Estate administration is charged at the greater of $5,000 or 0.5% of your estate (capped at $30,000). Larger estates often need more work; the cap keeps it fair and predictable.
Expensive settlements
Trustee companies and law firms often charge an open ended fee of 2–4% of estate value. For a $2M estate that might add up to $60,000 or more.
Freedom of choice
If your executor appoints another provider, a one-time $5,000 release fee applies to cover lifetime storage and updates to that point.
Locked-in
Many providers imply exclusivity. In reality, NZ law allows your executor to transfer administration elsewhere, but often at significant additional cost.
One fee, after you pass
Your estate pays once, after your death, for the work that’s actually done.
Multiple payments
You pay to create the Will, to update it, and again for administration after you pass.
Willzee are adjusted annually in line with movements in the RBNZ Official Cash Rate. This ensures our pricing remains fair and consistent over time.
Arbitrary rate changes
Hourly and administration fees are adjusted independently by providers, often without notice or clear explanation.
Why it’s fair
Willzee earns a fee once your Will is acted on. That means our success depends on making the process efficient, accurate, and legally compliant for you, your executor, and your family.
By blending smart digital tools with trusted estate lawyers, Willzee delivers a professional outcome at less cost. No hidden charges, no ongoing fees; just fair value for genuine work when it’s needed.
Your Will is yours, so if you ever decide to move your service elsewhere, we respect that choice. We just ask that you let us know why, to help us keep improving and stay the fairest option out there.
